Conof’s C-shaped lamp

Conof’s C-shaped lamp
If Sesame Street is planning on having “C” as the letter of the day, they should definitely put Conof’s USB desk lamp in the spotlight. As it is, this C-shaped lamp creates its own spotlight. All that is required is plugging the lamp into the USB port, and you will have some wonderful brightness to go with your work. By the way, the lamp can swivel 270 degrees, so you can select your own personal level of brightness. Unfortunately, I don’t really have much information about this product, but I have heard (and you can see from the photo) that the C-lamp doubles as an ipod dock. That means that you can plug it in and presumably charge and download iTunes stuff on it. (Read the full post about ‘Conof’s C-shaped lamp’…)

The Penguin Squeeze LED Torch Light

The Penguin Squeeze LED Torch Light
Lesson of the day, squeeze a penguin enough times and it will shoot light out of it’s head. Although, you have to squeeze the wing, not just the full body, that’s an important part. PETA should totally go after these retailers and buyers, they were only thinking about squeezing a penguin to death. It promotes animal abuse or something like that. Well if you’d like to promote penguin abuse, this cool little torch doesn’t ever need new batteries. Which means that in the event of the power going out you won’t be holding up a candle looking for new batteries. Just squeeze the wing that pops out as I said before and it will charge the light back up again. (Read the full post about ‘The Penguin Squeeze LED Torch Light’…)

Good Nite Lite - Better than a night light

Good Nite Lite - Better than a night light
This cute little night light - with a shining sun for day and sleepy moon for night - is actually a clever behavioral modification device designed to help little munchkins learn to sleep by using visual cues. With all the recent studies about our Circadian rhythms using external cues such as daylight to control our bodies’ sleep patterns, I’m surprised it took someone so long to invent this for small children. Studies have shown that a well-rested child is happier, less cranky and learns better than those kiddies who are sleep deprived. Designed for children ages 3-5, it’s plug and play and uses a default 7am to 7pm period for sleep (which is easily modified), and automatically shuts off during the day. AverMedia rolls out DVI Box 7

AverMedia rolls out DVI Box 7
AverMedia Technologies aims to be at the forefront of set-top box TV tuners yet again by releasing the DVI Box 7, which will oust the AVerTV Box 7 in the process. The beauty about having the DVI Box 7 is the lack of a PC won’t be a problem whatsoever since this takes the tried and tested route of plug and play. All you need is a LCD or (God forbid) CRT monitor and you’re good to go, where the standalone AVerTV DVI Box 7 will be able to hook you up to an analog TV to catch standard over-the-air shows or via a standard analog TV coax cable. It also won’t take up additional space in your living room, since this TVBox tuner will come in a slim profile to suit even the most cramped apartments. First look at the Nokia N96

Written by admin on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 in gadgets and technologies.

I recently got a good look at the Nokia N96 which brought my attention to the accelerometer in particular the moving ball and light sabre application which are cool novelties - my kids love swishing the light sabre around even though they have never seen Star Wars (come on - they are under 3!).

My current phones of choice are the Nokia E71 for business and the Nokia N95 8GB for personal use so it was interesting to look at this new device which is a mild step up from the N95 8GB.

One of the most striking differences is the cleaner, flatter interface and the more streamlined design of the device - it looks a lot more attractive and a step up from the N95 but still has some way to go to meet the solid feel of the E71.

Samsung Instinct Review - Wired

Samsung Instinct Review - Wired
Wired reviews the Samsung Instinct and writes, “With its buttonless face and black monolithic look, the all-touchscreen Instinct is immediately familiar: It’s virtually the same weight and size as the iphone, only about two-tenths of an inch narrower. Most of the expected specs for any 2008 handset are here: 3G, GPS, 2-megapixel camera (with video recording), and full e-mail and web browsing features. But the Instinct doesn’t stop there; it tries to stake a claim on new ground by adding features its arch rival (even the upcoming version) skips: Haptic feedback buzzes below your fingertip when you work the touchscreen, and voice control lets you do certain tasks sans typing.” Read more about the Samsung Instinct. Moving from PC to Mac: Tutorial

Moving from PC to Mac: Tutorial
If, like me, you think from time to time about switching from a PC to a Mac, you’ll want to check out Robert Jensen’s account of how, in the course of reviewing the new iMac, he fell in love and ended up buying one. The lack of cable clutter is delightful, but of course the changeover is not quite seamless. I got interested in Mac potential when Apple’s Boot Camp and Parallels made it possible to use Windows programs on the Mac. There are a couple I just can’t give up. But Jensen apparently is not taking that easy way out. (Read the full post about ‘Moving from PC to Mac: Tutorial’…)
