iPoint Presenter is gesture-based

iPoint Presenter is gesture-based
It is amazing how many times I refer to the movie Minority Report when it comes to emerging technology. Hopefully we will never develop Precogs that can predict murders, but that gesture-based interface screen that Tom Cruise uses is something that I want. It appears that an organization known as Fraunhofer HHI has made my dream come true with the iPoint Presenter. This interaction concept uses gesture based interface on a projected screen, and is ironically more advanced than the one used in Minority Report. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Tom had to wear these gloves that emanated some weird blue light. The iPoint Presenter requires nothing more than a user’s bare hands, as the iPoint Presenter can sense the user’s gestures with its infrared eyes. Gadgetell tests the T-Mobile G1’s call quality

Gadgetell tests the T-Mobile G1’s call quality
Gadgetell got to try out the call quality of a T-Mobile G1 and got to compare it to a iPhone 3G.  There were no decibel meters or any other fancy scientific equipment used, just two guys with decent hearing and some phones. While at the T-Mobile G1 Android event, I got to talk with the guys from Big in Japan, makers of the ShopSavvy application.  We were discussing the G1 as a phone when I asked their “Tech Shogun,” Rylan Barnes, about call quality of the G1.  He said it was alright. Knowing that the Gadgetell readers out there would like to find out how the G1 performs as a phone firsthand (or first-ear as the case may be), we conducted some tests. Hackers use real headlines to lure victims to fake blogs
Security experts are warning users to be on the alert for a new hacking technique involving fake blogs.  Hackers have begun exploiting Google’s Trends Lab, which lists the days most searched topics.  They use this information to create real news stories which they then place on a fake blog in order to increase page rankings. Unsuspecting users who click through to the blog are presented with several videos. From there, the routine uses an old but still effective trick.  When a video is clicked on, a pop up prompts them to download a codec-which is actually malicious software.  The software loads a fake antispyware program which nags and goads the user into purchasing still more malware which exposes their personal info. Magnetix iCoaster makes audio fun

Magnetix iCoaster makes audio fun
Roller coasters are guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping, and with the Magnetix iCoaster, you not only get to live out a tiny roller coaster experience, but have a rocking soundtrack to go along with it as well. The idea is to build your coaster using the various sections of track, ‘hyper stunts’ and towers. There are ten suggested configurations but once you get the hang of basic roller coaster physics you can create countless more. Your coaster’s ‘cars’ are little metal balls which are hauled up an elevator and propelled along the track via the power of magnetism. This means iCoaster is capable of some serious jaw-on-the-floor stunts. (Read the full post about ‘Magnetix iCoaster makes audio fun’…)

The G1 gets a near-complete unboxing, we get totally jealous
by Joshua Topolsky, posted Oct 2nd 2008 at 6:03AM Well we see where this is headed. It was nice to catch a few of those quasi-unboxing pics of the T-Mobile G1 the other day, but now the cats and kittens at TmoNews have gone and gotten pretty much the full monty. If you want to get a taste of what’s to come, here’s the perfect chance. You can check out photos of the Android device being wrenched from its packaging, as well as some glamour shots of the bundled accessories — including a bizarrely retro remote on the earbuds and “handsome” carrying pouch. Matsushita changes name to “Panasonic Corporation”

Matsushita changes name to “Panasonic Corporation”
We have known Panasonic as a brand for a very long time.  However, Panasonic was just that, a brand of Matsushita Electric.  Now, Matsushita Electric has changed its name to “Panasonic Corporation.” The company has had “Matsushita” in its name since 1918.  In Japan, the brand was known as “National.” This really signals Panasonic’s understanding that consumer electronics is a global endeavor and there needs to be consistency in its brand around the world.  The transition in Japan will be complete by March 2010.  To prove they are serious about this change, they even changed their stock symbol on the NYSE form MC to PC.  Source [Panasonic] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! Visionman rolls out Widow gaming PC

Visionman rolls out Widow gaming PC
Visionman Computers is a name more often associated with servers, but it does have a say in gaming systems and notebooks as well for a small number of users. This time round, Visionman Computers have released a line new water-cooled gaming systems known as the Widow gaming PC. I suppose Widow here has something to do with the Black Widow spider that is deadly and poisonous, although too much gaming could introduce some poison into your relationship with your spouse, leaving wives to be gaming widows (an upgrade from golf widows, perhaps?). Bad jokes aside, read on after the jump for more skinny on the Widow gaming PC. (Read the full post about ‘Visionman rolls out Widow gaming PC’…)

Cellphone, USB drive gets modeled with meat
by Darren Murph, posted Oct 2nd 2008 at 4:11AM We deeply apologize to all the vegetarians in the crowd, but this was just too grotesque to overlook. We’re not exactly sure of the whos, whats, whys, and whens behind all this, but apparently some butcher-to-be found enough spare time (and enough fresh meat) to create a wallet, a set of keys, a 3G-capable cellphone and a 4TB flash drive from raw, tender meat. We don’t know what’s sadder — the fact that this isn’t the first of its kind, or that there ever was a first of its kind.[Via textually]Read PermalinkEmail this8 CommentsFiled under: cellphones, Misc. Before The Wedding Take Digital Photographs Of The Engagement
Filed in archive Tip by jim on October 02, 2008 There's almost always an occasion to take pictures and an opportunity such as a wedding engagement should not be missed. This is an oft overlooked event that is sometimes only documented as an afterthought by "one of the girls" at the office who takes a few shots with her cell phone camera at an informal get together. However, let's face it, without an engagement there wouldn't be a wedding to photograph so the engagement, and its party if there is one, is a significant event. If the bride and/or groom are close to you a bound photo album of the entire sequence of pre-engagement, engagement, wedding, and post-wedding photos would make a unique gift for their first anniversary. Toyota develops rear-collision airbag
by Nilay Patel, posted Oct 2nd 2008 at 3:02AM We’ve got airbags in the front, airbags to the side, even airbags on the hip — and now Toyota’s installing the first rear-collision airbags into its Japan-only iQ minicar. The bags are designed to protect rear seat passengers, and inflate from above the rear window to blanket your noggin and reduce impact force to the head by half.
